What is B.League?

The B.League is the pro basketball league in Japan. The league has two levels: B1 is the top level and B2 is the second division. History of B.League

The B.League was officially founded in 2015 when the National Basketball League (NBL) merged with the Basketball Japan League (bj league). The previous year, Japan was suspended from participating in international competitions like the FIBA World Cup because of the division between the two leagues. The merger of the two leagues and the creation of the B.League lifted that suspension, opening the door for the first B.League season in 2016 and 2017.

B.League Schedule & Format

The B.League season opener is usually in early October. The final regular season games are typically in early May and followed by the playoffs. The 24 B1 teams are divided into 3 divisions and play a 60-game regular season. Each team plays the other members of its division 4 times and plays 2 games against every team from the other divisions.

After the regular season, the top 2 teams in each division qualify for the playoffs. There are also 2 wild card spots that can come from any division, meaning 8 teams make the B.League playoffs. All 3 rounds of the B.League playoffs are a best-of-3 format.

Which Teams Play in the B.League?

As mentioned, there is promotion and relegation between the top two levels of the B.League. With the start of every new season, 2 teams that were previously in B2 join B1 while 2 teams from B1 move down to B1. As of the start of the 2024-25 season, here are the 24 teams in the top division of the B.League.
